All eyes on the White-throated Thrashers’ nests

Nid de Moqueurs gorge-blancheIt’s during the middle of the White-throated Thrasher’s breeding season that the action unfolds ...

A team made up of representatives of the various partners (LPO, Regional Nature park of Martinique, Le Carouge, AOMA) works its way through the Caravelle forest searching for nests, new or abandoned, of the White-throated Thrasher. At the end of long hours in the field 200 nests have been found, 17 of them with eggs, chicks or an adult ensconced.
Once a nest has been found, the teams are transformed, as it were, into medics. The nest’s GPS coordinates are taken, together with its height above the ground, the nature of the dominant vegetation, etc. Each nest found is systematically checked and every detail carefully recorded.

Nid de Moqueurs gorge-blancheThe task will continue until the end of September ; its final objective being to establish exactly where the thrasher’s required natural breeding environment is found, and what its characteristics are.

Until then. We must keep our eyes open …
