Identifying a network of sites on La Réunion

Under the Life+ Cap DOM framework, SEOR has been given the task of identifying a network of sites of ornithological interest. As the EU ’Birds & Habitats’ Directive is not applicable in the overseas territories, the Natura/Habitats 2000 framework does not exist here. So, through this initiative, Life+ Cap DOM is proposing other solutions to protect those sites that are important for bird conservation.

Dans le cadre du LIFE+ CAP DOM, la SEOR est chargée d’identifier un réseau de sites d’intérêt ornithologique. Les Directives Oiseaux et Habitat n’étant pas applicable dans les DOM, le réseau Natura 2000 y est absent. Par cette action, le LIFE+ CAP DOM entend proposer d’autres solutions pour protéger des sites d’importance pour les oiseaux, dans une approche démonstrative. Nicolas Laurent, Chargé de mission LIFE+ CAP DOM à la SEOR revient sur la démarche.
