Taking stock of STOC on La Réunion

In 2014, for the second year running, STOC (point-count) surveys took place across La Réunion.

It is not yet possible to draw any significant conclusions about population changes over time, with just two years’ work to go on, but SEOR has, nevertheless, been able to make a certain number of analyses of the results collected so far, in particular mapping spatial distribution and showing altitudinal distribution graphically.

This year, the focus has been on the group of species classified as ’common’, in particular those forest passerines endemic to La Réunion (excluding the Réunion Cuckoo-shrike or ’Tuit-tuit’, which is not common, and is already quite well studied), including the Réunion Grey White-eye, the Réunion Olive White-eye, the Mascarene Paradise-flycatcher, the Réunion Stonechat and the Réunion Bulbul.
