A dominant theme for the 2013-2014 school year for three classes at CP/CE1 level at the Éco-école of Roura is to be the Agami Heron. The commune of Roura holds part of the National Nature Reserve of the Kaw-Roura marshes – and hence the colony of herons !
During a teaching project that will last through the whole year, the pupils will learn about the species, its habitat and various aspects of its biology and ecology (food chain, classification, morphological adaptations ... ).
By covering the subject in class on a monthly basis, different aspects of the heron’s lifestyle will be covered through activities suggested by the head of mission from GEPOG, but the project will not stop there ! The classes will make several field trips under the auspices of other organisations with the aim of discovering the different environments used by the species and their studies will be integrated with their normal courses (French, Art lessons ... ).
The apprentice ecologists have only just started their adventure !!
